Kevin has been Resident Conductor of Desford Colliery Band since August 2006 and connected with the Band since 1983.
Kevin began his music making in his native Norfolk, aged 11, he began learning to play Euphonium with the Cawston Band. Upon leaving school, he joined the Army as a full-time musician in the Royal Artillery Band, and stayed in the Army for eight years. Leaving the Army in 1983, Kevin accepted the 2nd Horn seat playing with the Desford Colliery Dowty Band under Howard Snell.
Kevin's conducting career began in 1987, when he became Musical Director of the Desford Youth Band, winning two national titles, 4 Area Championships and the inaugural European Youth Championship. He then moved on to conduct the Snibston & Desford Band, taking them into the Championship section for the first time in their history.
During his 22 years of conducting Kevin has enjoyed leading some of the country’s finest brass bands, including the Fodens Band, Staffordshire Band and enjoyed much success with the Ratby Co-operative Band where he was Musical Director for 10 years. He had many successes including 2 Area victories in the 1st section, securing the Band in the Championship section, and winning 2 gold medals with distinction and the World Music Festival in Kerkrade, Netherlands. He is currently Musical Director of the Hopkins Solicitors Blidworth Band.
