Kate Williams

Kate, at the age of 11, found herself becoming very envious of her identical twins fabulous good looks and vibrant personality. The situation worsened when Helen began to play tenor horn and was found to be a potentially talented musician. So it seemed inevitable that she should also take up one of the less fashionable instruments in the world of music—the baritone saxhorn! In no time at all she managed, unlike most people, to coax an acceptable tone from the beast and soon progressed from her humble beginnings with “Harry Cheshire High School” via “Kidderminster Band” and onto the mighty “Walsall Band” (now known as the “Staffordshire Band”) where she was allowed to play principal euphonium (even though her degree had been gained at the Birmingham Conservatoire in the mysterious world of baritone performance skills).

This medal of educational excellence enabled her to become one of Sandwell Youth Music’s leading instrumental teachers where she instructs and conducts in 9 schools. Her limited spare time is occupied by Desford band Dudley Golf Club who both value her greatly except when the men are present (in both cases!!).
